Access information
Main Entrance & Reception
There is a ramp leading to a glass porched area, the heavy glass front door measures 1m x 2.1m and opens outwards. There is then a second heavy glass door measuring 0.93m x 2.03m giving access to the reception area.
The front door is open from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. A duty student is available after 5pm or at weekends for assistance.
Dining Room
The Dining Room is situated off the reception and the main entrance is via a glazed door that is opened automatically by using a swipe card via a keypad to the left of the door. The dining room has polished wooden floors and is on two levels separated by a flight of 4 stairs with handrails to both sides.
There is one dining table seating 6 people on the upper level, along with drinks making facilities and access to unisex toilets including a disabled toilet.
Wheelchair access to the lower part of the dining room can only be made from one of the two ramped entrances on the glazed side of the room. Cooked meals are served on this level along with a self-service salad/breakfast bar at the end of the room. Staff assistance is available if required.
Lecture Rooms
The entrances to the New Building for the Wakefield and Gilmore lecture rooms have ramp access and the doors are opened automatically using a swipe card via keypads to the right of the doors.
Access to the Handsworth lecture room is via a ramp with a glazed manual door measuring 0.94m x 2m opening outwards that require swipe card access via the keypad to the left of the door.
The Chapel
Access to the chapel is through a pair of narrow wooden doors measuring 0.65m x 2m and a push button keypad leading to a vestibule with further push narrow double wooden doors into the main body of the chapel.
The Old Building
There is a ramp leading to the large main door which measures 0.9m x 2.05m and manually opens outwards. Entry to the building requires swipe card access via the keypad to the left of the door. The entrance hall is then accessed through a further set of glazed manual doors opening outwards into the porch area. There are wooden floors throughout the ground floor of the Old Building. A stairlift to the first floor enables access to accessible bedroom accommodation.
The Library
The Library is situated to the right of the hallway on the ground floor in the Old Building and is accessed through partly glazed double doors that require swipe card access via the keypad to the left of the door. A member of staff will assist if required in the use of the Library. There are ample accessible work stations available for personal study use.
Common Room
The common room is on the left hand side of the hallway on the ground floor of the Old Building through double partly glazed manual doors that open inwards.
Student Accommodation
There are a number of bedrooms within the college which have been specifically designed or modified for disabled access. Please discuss any specific requirements with a member of our hospitality staff.
