Opening of Frances Young House - Monday 2nd October 2017
On Monday 2nd October, we were pleased to hold a double celebration in respect of the opening of Frances Young House, a new building for teaching and accommodating our students.
The evening began with a service of celebration and thanksgiving, led by the Revd Dr Roger Walton, and with the sermon by Revd Professor Frances Young, after whom the building is named. Frances preached passionately about the importance of research and teaching, and the text of her sermon is available here.
The building was then formally opened by Frances herself - see below.
And as a climax to the opening, Professor Nicola Slee delivered her inaugural address as the Queens's Chair in Feminist Practical Theology at VU Amsterdam. The lecture was previously given at VU itself, but was re-presented, both to mark the opening of FYH, and also to open it to a more 'local' audience. Professor Heather Walton from Glasgow University gave a response to the lecture, and there was further opportunity for livelt debate and discussion.
