Who is it for?

The aim of this programme is to equip Christian ministers, in curacies within the Anglican Church, to continue to develop as competent and faithful reflective practitioners. To this end, it provides an education in theology, ministry and mission, building on the learning from IME1, seeking to complement IME2 and encourage reflection on the nature and identity of Anglican ministry.

The flexibility offered by distance learning allows you to engage with the course and your tutors from virtually anywhere whilst conveniently fitting the training around your professional and personal commitments.

Programme Structure

This MA is validated by Newman University. You would study 60 credits per year. In the first and second year, this comprises two taught modules. The final year leading to the MA award is dedicated to a dissertation on a theological topic of your own choice in relation to your ministry and chosen specialism. The course content will relate theological knowledge to your continued formational development as a curate and as a deacon or priest. You will reflect on your identity as a public minister, serving within a particular context, and on the relationship between this and your own faith and spirituality. You will explore approaches to Christian leadership in a contemporary context, and will be guided in ways to research important material to develop your own ideas, particularly through your dissertation.

Admission Requirements

Students enter the MA in Theology & Transformative Practice programme under one of the following categories:

• A degree in theology (or other level 6 qualification, such as a Graduate Diploma) at 2:2 or above
• Graduates (classed as 2:2 honours or above) in other disciplines with experience of Theology or Religious Studies to at least undergraduate Certificate levelStudents without a relevant degree but with a DipHE in Theology (with an overall average mark of at least 60%) may wish to consider our PGCert as means of entry onto the M.A.
